Light against its being

“How did the rose ever open its heart and give to this world all its beauty?
It felt the encouragement of light against its being,
otherwise we all remain too frightened.”

from The Gift: Poems by Hafiz

December has begun. Outside the darkness grows.

Open someone’s heart with your light today.

  1. What a beautifully simple insight upon which to reflect during this holiday season! Many thanks for drawing it to our attention. And may the blessings of many rays of light enrich this time of year for all of us.

    • It has been quite gloomy and grey in Ottawa the last week or so, and it gets darker earlier and earlier every day. We have to work hard to make our own light. It is no wonder that light is the theme for so many traditions and celebrations in December.

  2. All its beauty. Thank you. My shadow is also beautiful, and I want to let down my defences against it.
